It's VERY soft in the seat but not quite as soft as the tempress. Backs only 1 inch shorter so I think I'll be happy with them. The high backs in the tempress were 119.99 THEN you had to buy the plate with the pin that goes in the pedestal stand. Brought them to 135 EACH. OUCH. I got away with 115 each
