    Default Water pump install

I have done 100's and this little 4.5 has whooped my butt. the drive shaft from motor to lower unit stays in the motor. I dropped the lower unit and took the water pump housing loose. The impeller only had three blades left out of five. Ok I found the problem but the key that locks the impeller to shaft must have fallen in the lower unit. Now I will have to disassemble the lower unit to get impeller key. Anyone ever done this?

Can you run a magnet down into L.U. and try to get the key? Might save ya some grief.

Tried that and now going to flush some diesel through it and maybe it might flush out

The diesel trick worked, flushed that bad boy right out.

No kidding? Diesel huh. I'd have tried the hold upside down and shake method myself. Maybe tap it like a ketchup bottle.

Whew that was a close one Torch. It could have developed into a REAL pain if it had gotten lodged in one of the gears. Good thinking on the diesel. Now all your gears are spic and span as well.:D

I guess you can stick some rags in the holes that lead to the lower unit so stuff dont fall in there....I've done that before....but I got lucky and got mine out with a long skinny magnet.
