When your pulling cranks 100-150 ft behind the boat there won't be a lot of down pressure. The pressure will be on the side but I'm sure they will work fine.

G-3 I pull directly off the back like you mentioned and I have to angle the rod tip up to get the pressure I need against the handle. I have found that this will put so much pressure that it will actually indent my cork handles.
