Default Passing the hat infor for Jwills - John Wills

OK, I checked into setting up a "For Benefit Of" checking account to handle a hat passing for Jwills, or John Wills. For those of you that may not know, he was hit pretty hard by the tornado that passed through Yazoo this weekend. As I can gather from the info from PMs and reading here, he's able to stay in his home, but suffered some major damage, although I don't know the extent but was described as "pretty bad damage".

Also, if you don't know Mr. Wills, and actually, I've never met him in person, he is a retired boat builder. Used to work for the Triton aluminum plant up in NE MS and retired when they moved production out of state. He's worked for several builders over the years and knows boats inside and out. He's also a bang up fella and would bend over backwards to help a man out anyway he can. In addition, he can catch fish just by grinning them into the boat.

Anyway, here's the deal on the account:

Mr. Wills would have to go into the bank in Yazoo to open the account, present ID etc.

A second person would have to be the designated signor on the account.

The account would be free and checks would be ordered at no cost.

Anyone in the state could then walk into a branch and make a deposit, checks could not be mailed to the branch, although they could be collected by the designee and deposited.

I could not be the designated signor as a bank employee - bank policy.

For Mr. Wills to have access to the funds, the designee/signor would have to write him a check.

Fairly simple, but there are some rules to it.

I'm all for getting some funds up to help him out, although I'm betting we're gonna have to twist his arm to get him to take it. The bank account thing adds a layer of complication, that if I have a vote on, I'd bypass, but it does provide an air of legitimacy that some might feel more comfortable with. It'd be a lot more simple just to designate somebody to send the checks to and get them to deliver the funds. Maybe somebody that lives fairly close or runs into him on a regular basis. I'm for whatever ya'll want to do, but we need to get this ball rolling.

G-3, if ya would, make this a sticky and we'll hash it out and get up a game plan.

I need a volunteer here. Who sees Mr. Wills regular or at least on the occassion? Heck, I don't even have his phone number. Guess that'd be a start. Ya'll keep this pace up and I'm just gonna start appointing folks.

we can buy a pre paid visa at wal mart and anyone could go to any walmart and put money on it. no legal issues there.

If that won't work JW needs to go to regions and get an account and post the info here.

Why not just give him all the entry fees paid for the FJ on the 8th?

Thanks for checking that out, Wannabe... but that sounds like a complicated way to go about it. I'll gladly donate just need an address to send a donation to.

I agree let's keep this simple. We just need a person to volunteer to handle the $. I'd do it, but it doesn't seem appropriate since I'm the one pushing the idea.

    Somebody step up.

I'll do it for Mr. John and Miss Linda. I have an address for them but not sure I want to post it on a public board. For those who dont know them, Mr. John was the primary force in getting the first Mississippi Crappie Camp organized. It was a great time and I have made some life long friends because of it. Mr. John was also a long time moderator of this board. If you need the address, I will pm it to you or if you want, I will be happy to mail it to them.
