    Default 997 Low down

Well I tried my new 997 today and was very happy with it for the most part. I aint to proud of the ducer mounting bracket. It aint very sturdy. Had it flip up on me one time. Probably will end up makin a new one. The ease of use is amazin so far. I aint tried the snap shot feature yet. Saw quite a bit of stuff and marked several places I will be trying. Got a little fine tuning to do. The left side is not quite as plain and doesnt seem to reach as far as the right side. Think the ducer needs rotating just a smidgen. The GPS refresh rate is not very good, but the software update is supposaed to take care of that along with the down imaging. Didnt try it in shallow water, all was in 10-40 ft. I would highly recommend it.

Take a Level with you on the water. Check the level of the boat at rest on the water. Most boats will list to one side or the other. Most people level the boat at home then when they get on the water. There boat is not sitting in that spot. Then remember how much the bubble is off and level the boat at home back to that spot to set the transducer thats what I do and it works great.
Being you know yours does not work as good to the left side. Adjust it where the transducer is higher on that side. That or if you have it mounted on the right side of the boat. Tilt the motor up and watch the unit. (You will see it clear up if the lower units is blocking the signal). As it can block part of the signal also.
As for the mounting bracket. Never seen any issues with mine not being built heavy enough? Not sure on that one, do you have it mounted the way the directions show? I have never had mine flip up in almost 4 years of use.

It takes time to get it set right but well work the effort of setting them up right. Enjoy and watch out for those shots that show a whole school of Crappie. They sure make it nice in winter time fishing.

I am gonna wait till about June or better and see what's happening with the SI - Di stuff, they might jump out there with a sale on the 1197s. Meantime, I did jump on this last week for 955.00 with the maps and all I don't think you can beat this price. Don Don you might wanna look at this hard. Thanks for the tips Pete. I probably didn't have the screws tight enough yesterday cause it didnt do it today. I went out there this morning and done some looking and upon closer inspection, the transom on my boat appears to be angled toward the center of the boat and down under the boat if this make sense. It appeared to be shading the transducer. I added a shim under the inside of the transducer mount and this cleared it up quite a bit. Will post pics in a minute if I get it figured out. fixin to look at my SD card and try to upload em.

    Thanks again

Default How can you tell how deep things are

when they're off to the side of ya. I see what appears to be suspended fish on there but don't see a way to know how deep they are
