    Default fish tales

Ok, first lemme say I should know better...

But I'm slow sometimes. Anyway, been talking to a couple semi-pro
tournyment-type bassers lately. I talk fish with anybody that comes in the shop,
and you just have to play with the cards you're dealt.

Theres a question coming here - (If any of you would admit talking to a
bass fisherman) - have you ever noticed this particular attitude on some
of 'em? It varies from case to case, but usually goes something like this:

"Yeah, them crappies are good to eat. I need to go catch me some of 'em.
Wife would like that, she likes to eat crappies. I know Billy Joe Jim Bob
an' he catches 100 or so every time he goes. I need to go catch me a
mess, I prolly wouldn't want over 50 or so..."

Other day one told me BJJB (for short) caught 75 in an hour and a half.
Same general area where I been strugglin to catch 5 or 20 in a day.
Now I KNOW I'm a greenhorn at this crappie fishin', but COME ON.
    I've seen times I caught 75 fish.
    I've seen times I caught a fish every 72 seconds (that's busy!)
But not 75 at that pace - well OK, maybe catchin dinks at a state park
in the winter a few times, but not decent sized fish on the big water.

Well, I don't "call bs" on folks much, but if you do ever question one
of these basser's "somebody I know catches a million crappies" stories,
    you get this treatment:

"Well heck, crappies are EASY to catch. 50 or 100 of them lil thangs
shouldn't be no big deal. It's not like they're hard to catch, like BASS
    or something."

What I normally do J, is just tell 'em about the time I caught a 12 pound Largemouth pulling cranks and then throw in - "You know, them things are pretty good if you fillet them just right and bake 'em."

    Gets their goat every time.

Them bass must not be any good to eat every time you see one of those fishing shows they never keep any. Bill Dance is always talking about catchin em but never talks about eating them.

I got a buddy that gets plum mad when I tell him bout eatin one. Heck they must be bout extinct. They fish all day and only catch 8 or 10. And them jokers must be really fast, cause them boys will sure burn the water up trying to catch up to em. I just laugh at em and try to make sure they see me throw one in the live well every chance I get. Sometimes I will keep a few extra crappie and give to the older people in our chruch, but these boys aint on that list. They wanna be though.

Had a guy tell me today that he didn't like crappie. Said bass was his favorite, and gar was a close second. Said he liked his fish to have some flavor. He also said he ate opossum. Takes all kinds, I guess.
