If you're gonna be trolling, go with baitcasters. You can get Okuma line counters as cheap as any baitcaster, may as well just use those. They are heavy, but they just sit in a rack most of the time. I bought 6 for pullin' cranks, put them on my spider riggin poles this fall, and really like it. When the fish are deep, it's real easy to just drop down till the counter reads 28' or whatever, rather than having to pull off line and count to get the same depth.
and saves money WB. 18 bucks vs atleast 60 bucks each

I would have mentioned pulling double duty with the Okumas, but I haven't tried that yet. Seems they'd be bulky, but I knew you, Sat and Bigger were doing it. If I try these two and like 'em, I may retire the baitcasters.

Yep WB, I am using LINE COUNTER reels for my deep trollin and cranks. But I still have my CHEAP mini reels for regular trollin. Only thing is I am gonna have to build a bigger rack to carry all these poles. LOL

Was kinda thinking about making something that had Velcro on it so it'd attach to my Bimini top that's laid down to the back of the boat. Is a royal pain with a double jig setup on each rod cause the jigs come aloose and get tangled with the other rods
That is the lowest price I have seen yet. Wonder what they get for shipping. Even in the 4 packs on ebay and other places they are about $34.00.
I don't like a spin cast. I prefer a spinning reel but these Okumas seem like a good choice for spider rigging and pulling cranks.
I'm using a fly reel for jigging (dipping in the weeds).
Dicks has a shimano IX spinning reel for like $15.00. Not sure how good it is, although the shimanos are preferred by our local reel repair guy. He's also said that he's repaired a few of the Okumas and same issue with all of them. Some cast gear breaks in two. Anyone had that problem?
I'm open to all suggestions. Even spin casters. I might ahve to get one and try it again.
That is a good price, I may get a few more. Got my others from Franksgreatoutdoors.com for $29. Cheapest baitcaster I've been able to find is a Zebco at Grizzly for $22. If you want to go with spinning, Monks crappie has pinnacle spinning reels for Around $10 each, I have 8 of them and they work fine.
I think shipping on 2 was like $7. That outfit is like a Mom and Pop store I gather. My wife ordered only one by mistake, then another on a seperate order, realized it the next day, then called and a person answered the phone and when she said she placed an order on the phone - the lady said "Oh yeah, you're Is, I was about to call you and see if you wanted me to combine the orders to save on shipping. Seem like awful good folks....course, I haven't gotten the reels yet, but I assume they've arrived and are hidden somewhere in the house. Shhh though....I'm not supposed to know.
As far as storage goes DD, here's what I do with double rigs - weight in the middle. Let out enough line to wrap the bottom jig around the reel seat, join the two jigs, take up the slack, but not so much to put a bow in the rod - it helps to craddle the weight close to the rod by hand. Then, while standing, put the rod butt down on the floor, grab the line half way up the rod and spin the rod. This will wrap the line on both ends as you twirl the rod. When it starts to get tight, hang the loose end in your fingers over one of the eyes.
By doing it this way, it holds all of the line tight to the rod so it can't tangle and when you pick it up to fish with it, you can grab the line in the middle, reverse twirl the rod and rig it. This method does not make you unwrap the line on the last few eyes which can be a pain.
