    Default Old Wives' Tales

We had a lot of fun out of the old and unusual says thread. So maybe we can get some fun out of this one.

Going to be a hard cold winter if the trees lose their leaves from the top first.

    wives tale about wooly worms?

The old wooly worm prediction is the most popular one in the book. The two-toned fuzzy caterpillar is said to predict the severity of winter weather with the thickness of its stripes. If the brown band in the middle is narrow, the winter will be harsh; and if it's thicker, the opposite holds true.

If that’s true we’re in for a bad one. I saw one a few days ago with no stripe at all, solid black.
