"G" Gone but not forgotten!!
Yes, they are both of the genus "Morone" .... with White Bass being a freshwater fish, and a true Striper being a saltwater fish that happens to spawn in freshwater.
Lake Moultrie in South Carolina was the first lake that Striped Bass were landlocked in and survived & reproduced. Since then, they've been stocked in various lakes around the country. Some stockings failed & some succeeded.
Here in KY, Lake Cumberland & Ky/Barkley Lake contain Striped Bass ... with Cumberland Lake being the premier spot, and state record holder of a 58lb 4oz fish.
Throw the dreaded and misnamed "White Perch" in there too. They have invaded a bunch of inshore lakes and threaten to crowd out other species, but they are natural to salt water estuaries. Their closest relative is listed as the Striped Bass.
