Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis......Any of you ever had this? Last week I developed really bad pain in the arch of my left foot. Didn't do anything to it, it just started hurting really bad. Got to the point I can't really put weight on it. I went to the ortho doctor and he said it was plantar fasciitis, which is basically inflammation of the bottom of the foot. Apparently there's not much you can do about, except rest the foot, take over the counter pain meds, and get arch supports and do stretching exercises for the foot. I am on my feet all for work, so resting it won't work. Have any of had this??? If so, what did you do to heal it?

My dad always said getting old isn't for sissies!

I had it...as you say it hurts bad. I had a fascia release done. It fixed it right up. But it is not for everyone. You can google a fascia release and read about it. They basically cut the fascia to relieve tension and inflammation. My recovery was about 6 weeks and was in a walking boot cast.

Good arch supports will make a world of difference. Went into the ortho doc on crutches and walked out feeling like a new man. Now keep supports in all my shoes, boots and waders.

Time for a new pair myself, but Wolverine Durashocks (and have to be Durashocks) will help with foot and back pain immensely if on feet all day, if your line of work would allow workboots. Not for the banker types though.

It's horrible. I had it real bad for a while. And of course you try to do anything you can think of before calling the dr. I tried all kinds of insoles, different shoes, nothing really helped. But, I finally had to go to a podiatrist. He told me what I had and it could last a while. In the meantime, he gave me a cortisone shot, which wasn't pleasant, in my foot. It helped for a few weeks, but I seemed to be going back every month to get one just to alleviate the pain. Also, got some kind of boot to wear when I'm sleeping or resting that was suppose to stretch the tendon. (don't waste your money)
One evening my wife and I were in Nordstroms and another customer overheard us talking about my foot pain, and said to try these ECCO shoes. First thing I notices, the arch support was real firm and not soft, like I presumed it should be. But I tried them on and it seemed to help a little bit. So, I shelled out $150.00 for a pair that I could work in. They actually really helped and within a month, no more than 2 months, my planter fasciitis was pretty much gone. That was 9 years ago, and now, I only buy ECCO brand. But I usually go on ebay and find them about half the price. Weather it's ECCO or another brand, you need shoes with insoles that are not "cushiony" but hard and firm with good support.

I have a plantars callus on ball of foot. Have to get it trimmed twice a year

Thanks for the replies. I took all week off last week to stay off of it and rest it. That seemed to help, until I started walking on it again. I bought some different types of arch supports to try out. I also found some exercises on the internet that are supposed to help. I can't wear boots to work, but might look into the Wolverine Durashocks for doing yard work and such. Foot surgery sounds like a road I don't want to go down right now since I just had knee replacement last year. I'm supposed to go back to the ortho doc next week, but not sure they can offer much more than what I'm doing. Thanks again.

There is no one size fits all correction to foot problems with foot wear. What works for one will not work for another.Also it can change over time. I have worked and hunted hard for nearly fifty years now.When I started I could wear cowboy boots on concrete for ten hours day. Now I still walk three to five mile average a day at work and another mile or so at home a day.Sometimes hunt three to five miles a day on the weekend in winter. You just have to experiment all the time to find what works best.I have wore some brand for years then suddenly had to switch. I cannot have a lot a arch support for me it doesn't work makes it worse. For others its perfect. A ball type foot massager helps me and it also helps my calves they get sore. Also inflammation in the body makes it all worse....an anti inflammatory can help with all issues related to all types and joint and tendon issues and even diet makes a difference. Some people don't get Gout, but they can have similar inflammation from certain foods that do not agree with their body causing inflammation in tendons and joints.

It will take awhile to get better. Roll a bottle of ice under your foot, use insoles in shoes, and if you are up on your feet a lot buy the best quality shoe you can afford especially if you are on concrete floors. I feel for you as I had that stuff one time and went to foot doctor and had shots in the arch of my foot hurt like really bad. Good luck and hope you get better soon.
