Keyhole Gardens

I've been reading about these type gardens. They look great for small areas. Anyone ever try these type gardens out? I read about it in the local paper then googled it up. Interesting stuff.

This is my compact raised garden. All I have room for in my little yard, but fun to play around with. (3ft X 8ft)
We bought Easter Lillies last year at church and later I stuck one in the garden. Pleasant surprise to see it bloom this year, I had forgotten I planted it.

I have a large yard, but too many oak trees. Big problem with shade is diseases that come from no sunlight. Wilt, rust etc.

I like the gardens myself and have a pretty good green thumb. I too have a shady property but that will change in the coming year. You all need to check with your local landfill and find out if they offer free compost. Makes great soil for these gardens. My thoughts are for two parrallel raised gardens for tomatoes and zuchinni and such. One with a sweeter soil and the other more acidic. Should simplify things some. Thanks for the thread Tom. In Detroit and the bigger cities under reconstruction, folks get permission and take a few lots and clean them up and make neighborhood gardens. A plot is separated into 10 X 20 sections and by just requesting it, folks are allowed to build and work the garden of their choice. They co-op with each other and help each other weed each others when they go out of town or get sick, and you help out with another's needs. I heard a lot about these on public radio when I drove over the road. The concept of small and for yourself caught my attention.

This is the keyhole garden like something I will build. From an aerial view, it looks like a old type keyhole. The basket in the middle is the mulch feeder and water hole. It is an interesting concept.
