Just wanted to share an idea.


Since the pond can't get enough rain to fill back up, I keep it mowed and use it for my gun range.

It's good for 75 yard shots. Sometimes you make do with what you got.
Really happy with my Ruger American .243, accurate.

Very nice indeed. You have way too much time on your hands tho. When your pond does fill back up, got some structure for the fishes to hang as well. good idea.

Randy, it held water for several years, then the rains went around us.
Once was full of channel cats up to 10 lbs, literally hundreds of 'em.
Huge shad population. Some very nice bass and crappie and a ton of
blue gill & pumpkin seed perch. Was a fisherman's heaven. Water table
was just 4 feet under the bottom of the pond. Can't get enough rain
to help the hay grow. Lakes in our area are in very bad shape. All the
old rain dancers have passed and I've forgotten the steps. When its
full, it is 16 feet deep. Has run over several times with heavy rains,
but never found any fish in the hay field. Been a couple of years since
enough rain has filled it up. Took a year to dry up, but I did open it up
to several retired fellers to have some really big fish fries for friends.
Sure miss those days. I fed the catfish daily and they would come to
the dock at the sound of a cow bell ringing. They were a blast to catch
on a #3 fly rod. I have several sources to restock in the event the rains
return. I stocked several ponds for friends and can trap plenty to replenish
my pond. If I could only remember them rain dance steps. LOL

That's a bummer Joe. I figure it must have happened 2 -3 years ago with the record drought and hasn't had a chance to fill up. Toledo Bend was a record low at 12 feet below pool level with only two landing open on the entire lake. At that time, wished I remembered the rain dance steps as well . Hay/Alfalfa prices were outrageous everywhere to those of us who have to buy it. Good luck to you my friend, thanks for posting.
