Everybody needs an AR 15 Pap. I shot mine again the other day at 300 yards, using 5.56 62 gr bullet. not bad shooting though, I hit a 24 inch square target. I can't seem to tighten my groups up, I will figure it out.
You shoulda seen the look on my neighbors face when I was walking to my truck with it, I thought the old girl was going to fall out. I can't make my mind up on which to buy, a hard or soft case.

Fired/qualified with M-14 w/7.62 shells (Basic Training 1968) and got to fire one magazine full with the M-16 with those 5.56 shells. Unfortunately, someone left "my" M16 on full auto ... and when I fired it, half my shells were scattered all over the target

Needless to say, the Range SGT was all up in my grill within 2 seconds, wanting to know why I was playing Machinegun Kelly on HIS range. Then he realized that, since I'd never even SEEN a M16 before that time, that it was unlikely that I knew how to change the firing settings. He set the rifle on single fire, and I finished firing. Still sprayed all over the target, since they never explained how to aim the darn thing I liked the lighter weight of the M16, but the shorter length made holding it on target a bit tedious ... especially after having trained with the longer/heavier M14.

Had I ended up in the Nam, I would have had to learn how to shoot the M16 "on the job"
Luckily, I ended up in S. Korea, where I carried the M14 rifle. Well, except for when I was on QRF (quick reaction force ... aka guard duty) where I was not only the driver of the p/u truck that hauled the group around the compound ... but, I was also supposed to man the M60 (never having been trained to fire it, or even load it  ) Lucky for me (& probably any N. Korean infiltrators) I never had to lock & load the M60 and send some rounds down range.

Here's a young Pappy heading to the QRF truck with the "meat grinder" :

And chillin' outside the guard hut, with trusty M14 in hand :

Yeah, I noticed that when I reviewed the pic, right before posting. Almost looks like clown shoes, for some reason (it's actually only a size 11.5)
