Mono

I'd say ..... mono for trolling (stretch of mono may help)
braid for vertical jigging (no stretch helps with bite detection & pulling jigs free)

But, always test your drag ... for whatever line, & line strength, that you use. Tie the tag end to something solid & test the reel's drag against the hardest hookset that you'd ever use. Err on the side of caution, by setting the drag just on the loose side of slipping before line or rod breakage is imminent.

Thanks pappy, I always preferred braided to mono. Very good info. I figured since OffTopic was big time now, we should have our on fishing line thread.
