    Default other hobbies

What other hobbies do fisherman have, if any. I have been wondering about what others do that frequent these forums so thought I would ask. I have fished ever since I was a small child and am now 57, so this has been a life long love of mine but I do have other intrests. I started running about 18 years ago just for exercise and to keep the ticker in shape and one thing led to another and now I've run around 20 half marathons and 8 full marathons and that also has become a life style change for me. I'm not very fast and it's probably not pretty but some of the benefits help out when I make some long treks back in to get to some of my far off favorite fishing spots. The wife and I travel a little also our daughter is a missionary in Papua New Guinea and we have been fortunate to visit her and the grandkids and the son in law for about a month,( there are no crappie in PNG ). Ok so what you guys got ?

from Ne. glasseyes, I like to tinker around and make different things. I do a lot of wood working and making different things for Christmas and other holidays, to give away. EB

I grill out about twice a week, year round. Charcoal of course, no gas grill for me. So I guess cooking out might be considered a hobby. I like to collect and, shoot guns for sure. I love my Hockey. That is not going to well for me so far this year.
I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin' and hook up with them later.

I make my own jigs and it is relaxing, I have often thought about building a rod, seems like it might be rather expensive to do , is it ?

Not when the other people are paying for them.

LOL that would be true , but say an inexperienced guy like me wanted to take the task on just so he had one that he made for himself, what would be a round about figure it would cost ? . I'm thinking of a spin cast of 8' 2 pc, in a med. light action.

I keep thinking I'd like to build one as well. One of my fishing buds lives in central Fla and we ran down to Mudhole rod builders supply just to look around. They do seminars around the country if you were lucky enough to be close to one. Here is their website.

They have a free CD that walks you through the basics. They have everything you could possibly need to build a rod, except in my case, skill.

Oh yea, on the subject of hobbies I play golf fairly regularly. Couple of my golf buddies are also fishing buddies. Like to shoot doves also.
