    Default Kudos for the USPS

I get very good service when packages are shipped to me via the USPS.

I ordered a couple of items on line this past Wednesday and the packages, one from Indiana and the other from Pennsylvania, both arrived here in Minneapolis in the mail today. You just can't beat that for prompt. Second day service on packages. That has been the kind of quick shipment I normally get when something is sent out to me USPS. For all the trash one hears about those folks from time to time, they treat me just fine.

Both vendors shipped same day, too, so hats off to GAMMA lines (Black Knight Industries) and JANNS NETCRAFT are also warranted.

It is nice to be able say something good about folks ...

Funny thing is USPS uses FedEx to ship their packages... I've seen bags upon bags of us mail on the conveyors at FedEx here in Memphis...

The USPS does not own any planes, so it contracts out all it's plane transportation to different airlines and FedEx. Also, did you know, FedEx and UPS stop at Post Offices every day to drop off thousands of packages that are delivered the "final mile" by the USPS. Again, a contract with these businesses. Why? FedEX and UPS know it's cheaper than having their little trucks running all over the countryside when the USPS goes by that delivery point. That's why if the Postal Service ever closes, you will see little or no service in rural areas. Too costly for the Brown truck and FX. The other alternative would be very high prices to deliver in rural areas. Although the USPS is not perfect, when you think about what it does, it is truly amazing.

Rural mail here is delivered by individual private contractors, not the USPS. If UPS was geared for mail delivery, they could handle it efficiently, just like they do their boxes.

I have no gripes with the USPS except they pay a mail carrier way more than a school teacher with a Masters degree.

You won't find a school teacher that wants to walk a mail delivery route, and you won't find
a mailman that wants to teach a room full of kids. I agree, the mailman is overpaid and the
school teacher is underpaid. Pour the man another cup of common sense.

I would believe your rural mail is delivered by a rural carrier who drives their own vehicle. This may appear to be an independent contractor, but in fact is a USPS employee. As to UPS being able to do the same job as the USPS, no doubt they could. But they would have to make a lot of internal structural upgrades that would cost a fortune. Also doubt they would want to open 3400 UPS buildings across America. (A lot easier to handle thousands of parcels than billions of letters, magazines and parcels) I'm sure they would pass these costs on for each piece they would deliver. Right now, what does the Post Office charge you each day they stop at your mailbox? Do you thnk UPS would stop at your box every day for nothing?
As to the carrier pay being more than a teacher. (Mailcarriers are basically paid on the same scale across the US. Don't know about TN. teachers compared to IA teachers.)) Don't know about TN., but in Iowa a teacher with a Masters would make way more than a mailcarrier. I'm talking same years put in to each career. I was a teacher and a mail carrier. I've figured it. If I'd stayed in teaching (without a masters) for 30 years or if I'd carried mail for 30 years - I would have made more at the end as a teacher - again without a masters. Retirement is the same. Everyone thinks a Postal worker gets a super great pension. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining - but if I'd stayed in teaching (no masters) my retirement would be a lot more. Better even with a masters.
My intention by replying is not to start a controversy. I'm just stating the facts as I know them.
