Mr Weaver is well respected in our county. This is no fable or doctored up You Tube video. These are simply the facts about his businesses. This is a known fact in our small mountain county of 28,000 folks. Since our economic downturn folks in our community have been a little jumpy about how many of our products are made in China.
The following is Mr Weaver's answer as to why he has his products manufactured in China. He does this with no policical bias. In fact he calls out both major parties. The first 4 mentioned are Republicans and the last 2 are Democrats. His is not afraid to name the folks he dealt with from the local level up to our State Senators.
I don't know Jack Weaver personally but I do know he is well thought of in our county.
We have absolutely lost what common sence we ever had.
I understand the frustrations people have over foreign made products and most especially China. For 16 years I made products in China - and I still do. Why? I was sued by OUR, YOURS AND MINE, U.S Dept of Labor for using "cottage Industry workers" (contract employees). The final settlement with OUR UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT was that I would not produce another item in the USA for three years on a contract basis.I had taken people off of welfare, public assistance, etc. One young lady, Sarah, confined to a wheelchair - now she is back on public assistance programs, was making $25,000 a year part time. When I stopped producing and terminated 300 jobs most of those people went back on public assistance programs. More recently, and most of you are aware of the fact that for TWO YEARS, and over $20,000 investment in paper work and innumerable hours, I tried to set up an herbal winery in Rural Retreat and received ABSOLUTELY ZERO - ZERO- help to get through our over layered bureaucracy on both a federal level and a state level. NONE - ZERO - response from our elected officials, Annie B Crockett, Morgan Griffith, Bob McDonald and especially the worthless in my opinion, Bill Bolling, as well as Senators Warner and Webb, heads of public federal agencies such as Rural Development, Department of Agriculture on both State and Federal and the list goes on. Guess what - that business was moved overseas too. Did China take it? NO, we sent it.The bottom line is not that China is taking our jobs - it is that we are sending our jobs overseas. There are not many things that we could not produce in this country on a competitive basis and most entrepreneurs want to provide jobs and produce products in the USA but we do not have the time, the capital and the support (outside of lip service) from those we elect to help us do what we do best - being entrepreneurs. There are so many opportunities here in the USA for businesses but to get through our over layered bureaucracies on all levels, local, state and federal is totally overwhelming. So if you want jobs and products to come home - and they would - is to make all levels of government accountable. Truly it is that simple. We keep sending back the same old people to public offices thinking we are going to get different results.Jack Weaver
