    Default Trying to decide...

Yep, it finally happened...ARTHRITIS...got it in both feet, right ankle, left knee, both hands, both wrists, and right elbow. It really sucks. Trying to decide whether or not to put the majority of my fishing gear up for sale. It's so hard making it through a day at work that when I have time off, all I want to do is ice down my sore joints...I wish I could retire, but I wouldn't get enough from SS to cover my bills if I did.

At least I get to read how everyone else is doing and dream about being able to do it again someday...

Keep fighting it..Don't give in to the recliner. I fish with a couple of WWII vets now & then. We have to take a ladder with us to load & unload them because of this dreaded disease.

    Keep plugging.

Try cayenne pepper to help with the pain. When my hands start hurting I add a little to what I am eating. I add a little to baked potatoes or mix up some with mustard, ketchup and miracle whip and use it on sandwiches.

I have had it in my arms, shoulders, and neck for quite a few years now.....I have tried about all of the Prescription arth meds and not good results....the best thing for me is just over the counter Aleeve.....its hard on kidneys and liver though.....it says on the bottle not to take over 10 days in a row. I have gotten used to the pain pretty much and only take the Aleeve when its real bad....I might take it just four or five times a year for only a couple days at a time. I also take a low dose aspirin everyday and I wear a magnetic bracelet.......so far I have been copeing with it pretty good.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

    G:

Do you think/feel the magnetic bracelet works for you ?? I'm starting to get it in my elbow, and knees I'm afraid. Curious about those??
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

All I can tell you is when the arthur in my neck would get inflamed it would put pressure on the nerve that feeds my right arm and my whole arm would go numb for a few minutes......this would happen several times a day and both of my shoulders hurt bad all the time........been wearing the magnetic bracelet now for 7 years and my arm has not gone numb one time and my shoulders do not hurt as bad or as often. It may just be in my head but I think its helping and I am not going quit wearing the bracelet to find out if it makes a difference. I take it off when I shower and then it goes right back on. The Doctor diagnosed mine as osteo arthritus and its not as bad as the reumatoid arthritus.

Don't give up; a body in motion stays in motion. If the doctor hasn't check blood lately get this done and also have your uric acid level checked. If uric acid is high above 6.2 (Allopurinal tablet will help to get this down) this will add to your joint pain. You might also seek a hololistic doctor that could recommend some natural remedies that would not be hard on the kidneys and liver. There is a great one in Lexington, KY that my family uses and gets results. Hope this helps, most of us guys have this to look forward to.

I was taking Mobic for quite a few years and it just started messing up my kidney's so now I take Tramadol at half the regular dose twice a day. Certain days nothing helps but most of the time I can function without to much pain.
As was said, just keep moving and make arthur chase ya down. If it gets to where ya can't handle the boat anymore than find someone to go with. I take a 85 and 92 year olds fishing quite a bit. We just have shorter time on the water, but they can still make it out. EB
