    Default Huckabee World Magazine

I don't know Todd Huckabee, never met the guy. Never have heard anything bad about the man. Apparently he can catch fish. I have been buying Crappie World magazine off the rack, never would subscribe because of all the horror stories, for several years now. Todd may be the nicest, greatest, most gracious guide out there, but good lord how many pictures of him do you have to put in Crappie World magazine. Over time I have noticed pics of boats with guys doing the posing thing with 1994 and 1996 stickers on their boats. Hello, its 2007. The articles are somewhat informative, but if you have seen one Crappie World, you have seen them all. Not meaning to make anyone mad, but I mean enough is enough. Oh yeah, Crappie World is published really close to Todd. They don't have the financial ability to travel any? There have been a few "new" articles in the last couple of publications but I think they could do a whole lot better job of keeping things current in the magazine. I am not gonna buy anymore, like they care, because like I said, you seen a couple, you have seen it all. Nothing personal. FATBOY

Yeah, I quit buying those too. I met Todd at last years classic
weigh in, and he is a nice guy allright. But it has turned into one
big, blatant ad for Shakespeare, Pfluger, and a few more.
(or else it always was and I just started noticing)
Don't get me wrong, I love my Ugly Stick trolling rods, but the mag
is one big infomercial with only an occasional tidbit worth reading (my .02 )
Face it, crappie fishing is getting bigtime commercialized, and I no longer
believe much of anything I read or see in magazine pics.

did anyone read the article in one last fall where he caught 751 crappie for a fish fry? it said he went BACK out after guiding all day and kept all these fish for 11 days straight to have enough for the feed. If he gave any to the clients and then went back out, it that not a perfect example of double tripping, where you get a limit and take them home and go back for more. What made me sick was where he bragged about pounding brush piles under just a few docks. I am sure the poor guys that owned the dock would have fainted if he knew that he was doing. besides what he did for the fishing in that whole cove. believe me when I tell you that one guy can hurt an area or even a small lake. If you want a test, tell everyone you know, about a brushpile where you caught a bunch of fish and see how long it takes to ruin it.

Well I can tell you guys this I know Todd and he is a first class guy always willing to help anyone out and I realize he is in the book alot as is Jim Tennesse Duckworth and Steve McAdams You guys know fishermen, most wont tell anything to ya but Todd will. I dont know about the other guys in the book so I cant say for them You all may be right they might not have the capitol to travel very far cause they only put out 4 books a year. I can say for sure that there isnt as many dedicated crappie men in Oklahoma as there are in other states cause as far as I know the oklahoma entrys in the Tourneys will hardly ever be over 5 out of 30 therefore maybe the writers for the mag cant get the right stories. Perhaps some of you guys might take the time to write your own and send in and then maybe you can believe the stories in the books <dont forget catch catch pictures if you catch any fish> I know you guys that dont fish the touraments could care less but I for one feel that we need more to step up like Todd Huckabee and be a ambassadur for our sport and perhaps for the ones that fish the tourneys someday there will be a FLW type format with good cash involved where other fishermen can get sponsorships or endorse products and last but not least I am proud to call Todd Huckabee my friend www.toddhuckabee.com

You got that right. I post on several boards, and this is a common thread. The fly fishing guys think they're magazines are the worst (there's certainly no shortage of them.)

I think they're all basically gear catalogues with an occasional tidbit of info thrown in. I do like In-Fisherman and their annual specialty mags.

Crappie World does tend to focus on a few guides, Huckabee being one. Jim Duckworth and Garry Mason are two others.

You know I will still get that mag. Even though it is a crap shoot on when I will be getting in the mail( still have not figured out the mailing times- is it monthly, bi-monthly, every 3 months...I don't know) I just like having a whole mag that is about crappie, not one little spring time spawn article. I get tired of reading about bass and walleye. Because I don't fish for them as much. I think that Todd Huckabee is the most well known crappie fisherman( behind Wally Marshall) and the mag wants someone who is on the "cutting edge"

I was just knocking their republication of photos. There is one that's worse about it, Tennessee Sportsman.

I agree Fatboy, I 've even got two issues a couple years apart with the same picture on the cover! I like the articles where they go fish with an old fisherman/guide and you get to read about some off the wall trick or technique that he has used successfully.
I really like Todd Huchabee's articles though. He's the one that turned me on to using the 2" Yum Beavertails. I caught some nice fish last year since I started using them.
Maybe it's time for some of the Crappie.com members to start submitting some articles and pictures.
