Download SoftMaker Office 2008 for Free, Help a Charity
From now until December 31, you can download SoftMaker Office 2008 absolutely free. Even better, for each download, SoftMaker will donate 0.10 Euros to charity projects at betterplace.org. So even if you don’t plan to use the software, you should at least download a copy (and provide a legitimate e-mail address).
What is SoftMaker Office? InfoWorld called it “The better Office alternative,” citing its superiority over the more famous OpenOffice.org. SoftMaker Office 2008 includes not only word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation modules (all of them format-compatible with Microsoft Office), but also a BASIC scripting language and, if you want, 80 extra fonts.

I can only wish to be as good as my dog thinks I am
Yes I've installed it. It's a lot like Microsoft Office or Open Office. Pretty much the same features, maybe better than M$ Office (for one thing it's free, LOL). Has plenty of manuals and documentation for each program.
About the only programs I ever use are the word processor and Presentation (PowerPoint in M$). You are given the option to install only the programs you want during installation.
Here are the contains of the SoftMaker Office 2008

Here is the "About BNET", the site that offers/recommends SoftMaker Office 2008. It's very reputable.

I can only wish to be as good as my dog thinks I am
I don't get any newsletter. That option may have been checked during install. I always uncheck everything. I don't get it so I can't really say but most often this type newsletters have a link at the bottom where you can unsubscribe. Forward a copy to me at xpuser.byrd at gmail.com and let me have a look at it. Replace at with @ in the address.
yea i know about thee link but there are so many and i cant read German....will forward, you'll know my email by name and screen name, and its a bellsouth addy...thanks

Go down to the first attachment in that email and click on View. When the website comes up scroll all the way down to find the line: Ich mochte den Newsletter abbestellen ... it means I would like to cancel the newsletter.
A page will open with about 4 or 5 lines. The first one, in bold type is : Sie haben unseren Newsletter abbestellt.
That says the newsletter has been canceled. For all I know I may have canceled it for you but just to be sure you can go through the same motions. Below are screen shots of the translations.
