Fishing Pox,
You might consider using the generic OTC (over the counter) Ranitidine. That is the same as Zantac. It is an H2 receptor inhibitor, which is what the gastric cells have that cause the body to make acid. It is a great anti-reflux medication and is certainly cheap enough in the store brand generic.
My son was given a prescription for the liquid (he was 5 then). The script was close to $80.00 for ONE bottle! I paid and went down the isle and started investigating and found that I could get a box of like 50 for 8 bucks (i'm going with my broken down memory here). His dose required splitting the pills in half. The bottle was a two week supply at one dose a day. You figure the math. They gave me my $80.00 back after letting the pharmasist look over my evaluation and agree.
As a side note, my husband was on Prilosec and changed to the cheaper OTC Ranitidine as well with good results.
Best of luck
