    Default 2000 Buses

Well we can fianally lay to rest the mith that NO had 2000 buses just sitting there not being used to evacuate the people out of NO. In fact they only had 254 buses that was in working order. A far cry from the 2000 reported. Where this number came from. Someone said if "they had" 2000 buses they would have been able to get the people out of NO. As usual someone grabbed the statement and took it out of text and ran with it. Which lead to the confusion of the number of buses they actually had.

I've also heard that The governor of LA had one of the biggest voting machines in the country. They bused thousands of people to the poles every year for the elections.I wouldn't put so much stock in this if it weren't her that were making the biggest fuss over the slow arrival of federal help.On the other side of the coin , the NC coast was hit by a much smaller hurricane yesterday and the news reported 250 FEMA officers on the ground in NC before the storm ever made landfall......hhmmmmm.....

Default Rebuild or not to Rebuild

I am all for rebuilding the "Big-Easy". I just think they ought to build it somewhere else, where the land is a little higher. Then we could fix the levees, leave the water in New Orleans, filter it good and have one of the biggest crappie fishing lakes in the world. Just look at all that structure down there. That what you call Crappie Condos! (Just joking)
I can't leave now; They fixen to turn on.

    EB,

Appreciate your interest in laying to rest all this misinformation...where did you get this dispelling? I'll be turning on the 6:00 news in just a minute...but I doubt they'll spend much time fixing the tragedy all these rumors and misspeaks have caused by themselves (storm damage aside). Right now, I don't know what to believe.

...and just a post away Bill Weiler, a freelance journalist from Merritt Island, FL is cited as the source that claims NO Mayor claimed to have 500 buses at his disposal that were never used...Same Mayor claimed GW should have provided 500 more. Based on the fact the school bus usually caries about 30 comfortably, "At least" 8,400 with 254 buses, 16,600 with 500 buses or 33,200 (if multiple (2) trips were initiated soon enough), I don't know why the feds would have even been needed??? Do you?

The point is the NO mayor claimed to have (some) buses as part of his city's emergency response plan...Different numbers have been thrown around here and in the media. You raise a good point...but if there was an evacuation plan without a destination, that is likewise another failure of plan. I do not claim any of this to be fact. I wish the facts were more easily determined. But we do have another post citing the research of reporter Bill Weiler. And to tie this to another posting, my opinion is, NONE of it is GW's fault.
