As long as you secure the boat to the trailer the transom saver does it’s job it takes the load off your transom. I had to weld the corners of my Jon boat transom because I didn’t use one…. But the idea is to strap your boat to the trailer and the transom saver straps the motor to the trailer making it one unit so the springs and tires take all the abuse…. I normally just secure my steering wheel with a small bungee cord and it works great

Another thing that you might want to do is travel with your engine engaged in the forward position. I never really did this until last year when one of my buddies showed me this. Like he said, your propeller will free spin while going down the road if it is in neutral putting unnecessary spinning on the hub and bearings on the prop.
