Nice crabs Paw Paw, never heard of anyone getting that much for crabs, but I love to eat them. I freeze some every year to save for when we make gumbo. I'll clean them " gumbo style " and freeze them in water filled zip lock bags and they do pretty well for gumbo but for just picking and eating the meat looses some of its firmness and doesn't lump up well. My mom and dad always picked em and would freeze the meat in plastic containers filled with milk and they seemed to do better. When thawed just rinse the milk out with fresh water.
Freeze in milk? Never heard of that, curious why.
As far as I know the milk helps keep the meat firm and hold its texture and prevents freezer burn. When you thaw it out the milk needs to be rinsed out before using.
Yea, I generally cut their stomachs open and throw them back. Don't like killing something I am not going to eat but those nasty fish eat all of the good fish! I have tried them twice, both times I broke out in little red bumps under my eyes. Only seafood that I have found that I'm allergic to.
I heard $45 a dozen this past weekend... I remember the $2.50 a bushel days! LOL
My friend in Alexandria said he has to pay 5 dollars a crab for some select like I caught. I think I might start a new profession.
