Default I saw some authentic Nigerian women today

All dressed up in their colored dresses and hats - made me smile to no end. When I taught Petroleum Engineering at the university here, I met Dr. Chris Okoye, also from there. We became best of friends, actually the best adult friend I have ever had (believe it or not fellas). The only person I have ever known that was on the same wavelength as me. We would talk about everything, whether it be politics, sports, religion, fishing, goats (yes it's true about the goats, they have a tradition in Nigeria that involves a propane torch), chain saws, etc. We would laugh and laugh, and tease each other. We ate lunch together, dinner together, at each others houses, etc. On and on. Such much to say.

He died of a heart attack in his kitchen cooking some fish I gave him. That fast, and my age. Anyway, the university had a memorial for him. They asked me to be the last speaker because they all knew we were best of friends. In which I did. I felt like a game show host up on the stage. And I told them all about him and I. The previous speakers were are solemn. They liked what I said about my best friend.

Anyway, once all over, we all were forced to enter an area were the food was prepared. No one was allowed to leave the front entrance - these brightly colored dressed women from Nigeria insisted on it. Was something to experience for sure.

So, when I saw them today, I smiled and remembered. I will always remember you Chris - thanks. Thought I'd share with you folks, meant something to me.

A nice story. Death of a friend can produce such great memories right in the middle of the sadness. God bless your friend. Sorry for your loss.

The freedom to call a friend, regardless of origin, is priceless.

Sorry to hear of the passing of your friend. While I don't know word for word what you said, I agree with the format tremendously. I've been to funeral services that are so sad and depressing, and I've been to those that are celebrations of a persons life through the memories and stories everyone shares during the services. I think those leave the attendees much more at peace when it's over, knowing you'll miss your friend, but that they lived well and people genuinely cared about them in life. Can't ask for much more than that at the end, at least from here on Earth.
