Well I finally got my fig preserves put up. Thanks to a very good and generous neighbor who provide the figs after they were picked and washed. A man can't ask for better than that.
Saturday was a very enjoyable day. LSU had it's fig day which may be the last one or maybe a couple more as the orchard is supposed to be leveled and put to other use. We had a gathering of fig nuts from South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi and maybe other states. Louisiana was very well represented. Dr. Charlie Johnson who tends the orchard on a volunteer basis gave us a very informative talk on figs and then took questions which in themselves were very informative along with the answers. There were plates of figs for tasting and each were labeled for identification.
Dr. Charlie showing his passion for figs.
Figs for sampling
Roaming the orchard checking out the figs and trees and getting cuttings to start our own trees.
Of course I got my share
I even came home with a souvenir.
Also check out the thread titled "Frankenfig".
