Gonna eat that for lunch tomorrow Bruce. Randy have known several guys who ref'ed over the years. Always been low paid. Especially when irate parents don't like the calls. Never enough pay for that. Course the one's who complain are the same one's who would never help anyway, just complain. This is turning into a fun thread.

In regard to the referees being on strike, it's a tough job. I have no idea what the current controversy is but I'd say cut them some slack. I joined the association and refereed basketball games while a college student. Back then (way back then), I made about $5 a game. It's very professional; you just don't show up with a whistle and start calling games. You attend meetings to stay abreast of rule changes, call a set number of scrimmages for free, then start out as an apprentice under a more seasoned ref and work your way up. After getting cursed, threatened, and escorted out of the gym by deputies, I decided it wasn't worth it. But then again, maybe I just wasn't very good at it.
Would rather coach than ref any day. Had much respect for refs. Thankless job for sure. Parents were the worst enemy of the boys learning the game and took a lot
of fun out of the games. Whine and complain without input or help. Started at the youngest age and went all the way into high school with two nephews that were
very good players. Enjoyed every year to the max. Videoed all of our high school football and baseball games until the nephews graduated. Charged nothing for the
game tapes. Did highlight videos for the boys that wanted them and several got good scholarships, but could not stay out of love long enough to make the majors. What
a waste. My oldest nephew was one of them that let love trip him up. Thinking with the wrong head for sure. Now they show their videos to their kids and their kids are
not interested in sports. Head shaker. Had to chime in. Hope you don't mind. Both nephews now play in softball leagues and play for championship teams. Still enjoy
watching them play.
That's what we here for Joe. Chime in anytime. I'm an insomniac as you all can tell. I sleep a couple hours here, a couple hours there.
