Oh yes, always grill with charcoal. And, always smoke with cut wood. The way it's supposed to be done, and will continue to do so.

Sure glad that storm in the Gulf is not heading our way. Certainly don't need that right now.
We use hickory for smoking. Except for fowl, then we use pecan.
When i smoke i use 4 parts oak, 2 parts hickory and 1 part pecan.

pecan, pecan, pecan!! most overwhelm it with oak, hickory, and/or mesquite :twocents
Red or white oak.
