    Default White Bass

Anyone been after the white bass yet this year up at logansport?

Going to give it a shot this upcoming sunday (hopefully we wont have a blizzard between then and now.. )

I have heard some sparse reports that the run is starting, hopefully we can get on them like last year.

You must not have white perch in your lakes. They have wiped out the White Bass in our lakes. We use to camp in the Santee Cooper headwaters this time of year and catch WB running up the creeks to spawn. They are gone, have not seen one in years.

I think your referring to the white perch i used to catch in the brackish waters up in maryland. I don't think you will find them down this way... but the white bass migrate on all the river systems from texas through to mississippi each year down here. Can be action packed fun if you get on them

They have made their way into our inland lakes and the populations have exploded. A couple of years ago our DNR took them off the game fish list and there are no limits on them. It is not hard to catch 100 of them at certain times of the year. Good news is they are good eating if you get into decent size ones. They wiped out the white bass in some of the lakes, Santee Cooper being one that was hit hard. They could have come into the Santee Cooper lakes naturally through the locks, but some misguided sole put them in the inland landlocked lakes.

Well the whites are not quite on yet, we fished from about 6:30 am till 1pm. Tried all the holes that i did well in last year with artificials. No luck. A very kind soul who identified himself as a "crappie fisherman" who only fished for whites when the run was on and they were fun, was kind enough to take pity on us and offer us some baby crawfish. If you read this, thank you for your kindness. I hope to be in a position to return the favor some day. We put them to good use and ended up with 25 or so fish all together. Only 5 of them were white bass the rest were yellow bass... but they were of good size.

according to the locals we saw fishing, the whites were doing real good before our visit from father winter... but had pretty much shut off since then.

hopefully another week or so of warmer weather will see them back at it.

Gave all the fish to my guest and forgot to take pics.. so no fish pics here..

Sounds like you passed it on by giving the fish away. WTG Prowler.
