Default You are right bird. A man has to do what he has to Do!!!

That is after this morning. While hunting this morning, I got a late start. I had to dig out an old set of insulated coveralls. They smelled musty being in the shed so I sprayed them with some Odor cover sent and put the hunting clothes over them and went to the stand. I hadn't been there 15 minutes when the biggest deer I have ever seen came streight at me, A Buck with a rack much wider than its body and 12 to 14 inches high, He came out an old logging road about 120 yards turned towards me on A streight path. At about 80 yards He Froze in his tracks. He didn' just stop to look. It lifted his head as high as it could smelling the air. Looked towards the stand then raised high as possable again almost lifting up to smell it again. The Buck had caught scent of the musty coveralls even tho I sprayed them. My Trail coming in was 60 Yards away. I was carrying a 12 Guage and the shot was too far. I Have been seeing his rubs for 5 years and I dont think I will ever see him again. ....... I will be shoping for a scoped Rifle. If I do see him he will be in the freezer My deer of a lifetime was gone

good post FOL…..the deer may be meant for someone else…..kinda like the sacs that get off at the boat……remember…if you love something set it free and if it comes back to you it's yours…if not it was never meant to be…...

You can hang them out in a cedar tree for about a week and get rid of a lot of the scent. (If you can find that long when it aint raining. Also, get a hand full of fresh pine needles and crunch em up and rub em all over ya. Be a little sticky but good cover scent. Them ol bucks are courting pretty heavy. Stay out there. I'm betting he'll be in that area for several more days. I've seen some good ones hang around when ud think they'd be gone. Ain't too smart when they get doe fever. That's what got this one.

By the way, I didn't kill that deer. That's one my father had killed. I've killed some good ones but never one that big.

Yesterday I washed everything in scent eliminating Laundry detergent. I keep my hunting clothes in a big zipper bag that a king size Comforter came in. I will put some Cedar in there too

I Hate to shoot a deer that goes somewhere never to be found. I had poured about 20 lbs of Rock sea salt close to bros pvc feeder friday and filled the pipe with corn. Sunday I went over to take a look. The salt pile was almost gone. Places were in the salt you could see they were taking whole mouthfulls at a time. they had pawed the ground so much all the leaves were cleared in a 6 ft diameter. I made a Mock scrape using Doe in heat from 3 deer about 10 feet from the salt. I told Johnny what I had found. He told me to hunt it later in the afternoon. I was in the stand about an hour before a doe came out and was standing in the scrape i made. she stood there several minutes before she Peed in it too. then went to the salt. I watched to see if an other deer was with her. when I shot she wobbled and staggered without running, and I shot one more time. she almost fell but didn't. It was about 30 munutes before dark. I waited about 5 minutes before I went to look. Then about 80 yard out I saw the white flag bounding about 70 yards away. I had to get Flashlights and toilet paper to mark the trail. I have been told that using 00 Buck the entry wounds have a tendency to close, I was using 3 inch Mag 00 she ran 60 yards before the first blood drops. Marking each drop with paper. then the trail stoped. Looking almost 2 hours no more drops could be found. Yesterday morning I went looking. From where the trail ended the night before, it was 60 yards before the next small drop and it took two hours to find it. it was 20 to 40 yards between each small drop. Johnny and I followed making searches and marking each snall drop untill Dark. The trail was almost 1/2 mile long.we felt like it was more like 10 miles. A Rifle would have been the difference

Well I guess you did find her? I hate to shoot anything that I can't find but have shoot some ducks that have got away before, heck even seen dead ducks get up and fly off!! That will tick you off and make you laugh at the same time.

The last of the spots was close to a pond in the woods. the last spot was ten yards from the water. we searched a large area with no luck. My First Duck let me swim about 10 yards in freezing water. Then my Dead Duck sat up and swam off. The next week I was in the Hospital with Pneumonia.... I don't hunt Quackers now!!!!
