    Default cutting new deer trails

The time to post posted signs is befofe season starts. Local hunting clubs do help provide places for others to be able to get in the woods. A Local Club however has ignored Paint markers on the property lines, Making it nessery to put up Posted signs. Grandpaw had more than 100 Acres and the fences have been down for years. The new trails were cut by those Tresspassing. Momma is in her 90s and dont want others coming unenvited. With A Roll of Posted signs and boxes if tacks I set outputting out signs withen sight of each new one. Cutting my way through underbrush, following the painted trees putting up signs. I found Scouting trails and 4 Wheeler Roads crossing Creeks and Fences cut where they were. Belonging to A hunting club doesn't give others the right to go where there is no Invitation. I have to get another roll of signs to complete the property lines for mom. I have neen Wrapped up in REDBUGS.... Painting them with Fingernail Polish seals them, Killing them and stops the Itching. Some places are not Paintable. Insect Repellant would have been wise before starting. However I suffer from SENIOR CITIEN SINDRONE.

You have a point man!!!! This is an area in North La with too many Preditors. There are no Turkeys as a result, and no rabbits. Momma Overcut trees twice for Doctor bills, as a result there are few mature oak trees for food. The Creek bottoms are overgrown tangles of Briers and vines , Good bedding areas for Does with fawns, But lacking food. There are few deer here, Owls hunt the creek bottoms in daylight and bushytails are few. Momma has let others hunt here several times and when they got a deer they never brought them one piece of meat from their harvest. The worst part is Momma trusting the Loggers . they cut every Beech, Hickory. Walnut, and most of the oak. The load Tickets Showed Pine and Sweet Gum But the Trees are gone. Momma Never understood good Land Managment. The results are a barren Waste land with Little food for Wildlife.

Sounds to me like excellent area for deer overgrown tangles of briers and vines = excellent food for deer, acorns are only available about 3 -4 months out of the year the rest of the time they are feeding on browse or stuff that grows from the ground and sounds like you have that place

Bushytails are few because lack of trees it seems

Turkeys are gone because they need open areas. Not saying a turkey will not be found in a cutover, (they prefer to nest in places with dense ground cover) but for feeding purposes they like rather open areas

Cutovers look ugly but they can carry more deer than a closed canopy forest because the food deer browse upon needs sunlight hitting the ground in order to grow, all the stuff that grows in a cutover is deer food. It will get better man, just takes it a few years

Larry, there's programs through the ASCS that will pay 100% for replanting and 100% for helicopter spraying. Might be something to look into.

Try Dr. Tish (sp) sprayed around your ankles BEFORE you go out in the bush to keep the red bugs away. Make sure you get some on your socks to help it stay in longer. I have NEVER got red bugs when I did this, I have when I didn't! The nail polish like you said is the best way to kill them after you have got them. I have also used bleach in a bath tub and that seemed to help too.
