Luck has nothing to do with it, it's how you wiggle your worm.

Are you in the military? I was at Fort Polk many years ago to get a permit to hunt on some of the military land there and they had a recreational office next to a pond/small lake. I noticed they had small boats you could either rent or check out if you were military but that was a long time ago and I'm not sure if they still do that. I think it was called Alligator lake. They also have a stocked catfish pond but its for kids only or an adult with a kid. Adults alone are not allowed to fish it.

Here is some info on fishing around Fort Polk:
Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk, Louisiana

Other than that all I know of is Hodges gardens about 5 miles north of Leesville. They have a 255 acre lake stocked with bass, crappie, bream and catfish. You can rent a boat there for $20 for all day or fish from the bank. Each boat comes with 2 paddles and life jackets.

Here is an article about fishing there:
Hodges Gardens State Park - Fishing - Lafayette Adventure Sports | Examiner.com

Here is the state website for Hodges gardens:
Hodges Gardens State Park - Louisiana Office of State Parks

There is a lot of places to fish around Alexandria but that would be a 45 minute drive from Fort Polk.
