    Default Vacation family fishing ideas?

Hey! Im interested in bringing the family on fishing vacation. I would like to go somewhere in south la, inland waters of course for speckled trout, crabs and maybe some reds. Can anyone suggest any places, not to touristy, that would be good? I have a 16 ft tracker? Hotels that are boat friendly? Thanks.

I am pretty sure there are some places around the Lake Charles area but I don't know where they are, maybe send Shadow a PM and he may be able to help you out... I know down in Cameron, there is a motel where you can bring your boat but I don't know so much about the spec fishing there, we usually stay in a motel and go fish off the jetty pier. But it got hit by a barge the other day, so if you consider that option, you may want to call and see if it's fixed yet.
You can't fish with a hung line!

I would go with Grand Isle, there are plenty of rooms with a fridge and stove, they also have places to boil crabs at some of them or you can rent a camp. Your boat would be ok in size for the the back of the island and in the marsh areas or you can wade fish on the Gulf side. All the hotels or camps there are boat friendly.

It all depends on the weather, I have fished it many times in my 16' flat. There are a few places to put in just before you get to the Island where you are in the marsh from the start. If not leave the boat at home wade fish the gulf side and Elmer's Island. They have put a bunch of rock breakers out on the Gulf side too. We would get behind one of those and crab like you would be running a trot line just use longer drops and no hook, just tie the melt on the drop line.
Then is also Dularge and Cocodrie that is almost all marsh fishing.

I haven't been down there in a couple of years, but we went to Golden Meadow and fished across Catfish Lake in the marshes. Does anyone from that area know if this is all open/clean fishing since the whole BP thing? Probably is, but I haven't asked nor heard anyone mention it. Thanks.

    Hey J-R -
I must agree with Bruce - Grand Isle is best for your plans. There's stuff for the wife and kids to do besides fishing, the crabing in the surf can be excellent, there is a semblance of civilization there, and you can pick up a LOT of fine shrimp dirt cheap on your way home!
And I also agree that's where you should leave your boat - at home! You can catch PLENTY around the surf at GI and Elmer's. And if the wind's wrong for fish-fishing the surf, the crabs seem to do better when it's a bit roiled!
So, Bon chance, cher! And remember the sunscreen!
