Don't know why those wouldn't work but like BigDawgg said you will have to give it a little twitch. I have used jigs at night a bit, you can tie a jig hook on with a minnow hook to attract the jig, but most of the time you have to make the action.

When night fishing I will used 4 poles 3 with minnows one with jig. I will tossed the jig out and let it free fall back to the boat. I have fish hit it on the fall when it get's vertical will let it set a little bit and just give a twitch. After this I will reel the jig up slowly and will catch them this way. I don't start using my jig pole until knowing they are there by catching some on minnows. If you start using the jig to soon and not getting any hits then you will lose confidence in your in your jig. If you lose confidence in your jig might as well not to throw it out. A lot of times the jig will out perform the minnows and will catch bigger fish.

I’ve bought a light and am ready to give this method a try too. You guys go to your favorite spot or do you try to find bait balls, structure or some other approach to find the fish?

I been wanting to try night fishing myself. What kind of lights are good for this type of fishing?
I have actually done that, but put a minnow on the jig. Had a good day on High Rock last week.
