I started like most people and bought all kinds of rods to save money. Like most people I upgraded over the years and finally ended up with Southern Crappie Rods. I wish I would have just bought them from the start they would have been much cheaper than all the other sets. I use 14' although the 16' are good. My deal is storage and the length of my boat so 14' is best for me. As far as guarantees, I guarantee Ed will take them back if you don't like them. He has a waiting list sometimes for his rods so no problem getting your money back if need be. I have broke 2 of his rods. Stepped on one while fishing and stuck one into my garage door. He has replacement section so you don't have buy whole rod. My wife is my main partner and she will tell you bout these rods. She got her first 2 pounder and many near 2 pounds after I got Southern rods. She says she can now see the bite and fishing is fun to her now so I get to fish more. Just my opinion.

I've got 9 of the 12' crappie maxx rods that I push and pull crank baits with i like them because they have backbone. I've also got 8 14' rods i use in the spring.

if i did start with 12s I could indeed get 14s later, and if I dont have to sell em, then I got more toys
maybe we can set some hooks one day
It is hard to beat Southern Crappie rods for price and performance. I'm sure I will buy more at some time. I have a couple Bass Pro Crappie Maxx I like and I use one or 2 Bass Pro telescoping. I troll with 12-16 ft rods and I stagger by the length to help keep lines from tangling up.

I have a set of southern crappie in 12 and 14 ft. I just recently added a set of the 14 heavies and will be trying them soon. You cannot go wrong with the sc rods. For my style of fishing they are the best. That is 24 rods in 3 sets. I bought the heavies so I can push off the front with 2 oz weights and pull off the back.
