I have caught decent eating sizes in lakes James and hickory. Excellent for the table if you can find them, just not a size able population of them around here.

I am wondering if anybody ever caught any that were eating size. They are excellent bait stealers (worms, usually), but the ones we catch are rarely more than five inches long. I would think that we would catch one bigger occasionally. Maybe they are prized by bass and never get very big?

Ya need to goto the coastal rivers in the 1st couple months of the year!
Thanks for the replies. I wasn't clear in the message body. I was wondering about Jordan lake, specifically.
I've caught some yellow perch in Jordan over the years, but never any size. I think the bass, catfish and stripers keep the population low and small.
I used to catch big ones (12"+) at smith mountain in the fall on main channel drop offs.
