Harris 5/11
Fished Harris on Thursday morning. Found fish right on the bottom in 13.5 FOW early in the morning. They were in a little saddle of sorts where the water was 10 Ft on one side and 11 ft on the other... in the middle was 13.5 FOW and the post spawn females were laying on the bottom. Fished 4 dozen minnows before 10am with only 4 long rods, two out the back on slip bobbers, kept 36 between 11 and 12.5, no huge fish but plenty of fun. Also kept 24 white perch, some to eat and some little ones to bury beside my tomato plants.
Also used Crappie magnet jigs and grubs for the first time... they did pretty good after the minnows ran out. BUT, I had a trout magnet left over from a trout trip that I put on a long rod in solid chartreuse color and they really liked that one! It was teeny tiny but the big crappie ate it up... thought I would share since it was something different... always try new stuff, you just never know what they'll hit.
Most fillets were yellow. I had to ensure my wife they would still taste delicious, anybody ever notice any difference in taste with the yellowish fillets in the crappie? I ASSUME that this is due to the leftover eggs absorbing into the fish....
Thanks, Fishengineer
Talked to many people at the ramp that did not catch any crappie.... Not biting at the docks either... must have been my day! Lord knows I needed it.
