Snot Grass in Harris.

I have done some research on the black algee(snot grass) in Harris. I have eaten lots of fish from Harris and they were good. I always soak my fish in salt water with a little vinegar. I cooked some this weekend and threw them away because they tasted like the snot grass smells. I had crappie, perch, and catfish. They were all bad. Any ideas?

I've never had anything but the cats to taste like moss smells. I usually soak them too. Crappie were usually just fine.
