Most of the crappie I catch are Black Crappie by trolling small crankbaits. I do well with YoZuri Snap Shads in early spring and a Berkley Flicker Shad #4, #5, & #6s when it gets warmer. Black crappie tend to hold a little shallower and don't appear to school as tight as Whites in the summer and are not as channel oriented as white crappie. Good Luck!
