Screenshots on Jordan--many, many millions of shad!!!

Spent some time on the water today and found the crappie/shad in typical cold water areas. Problem we had is that with so much abundant food, the crappie are very fat and not biting. Couple of the larger ones we caught were almost round like a football. There are crappie in a lot of these shots, but getting them to bite was tough.




Found the water cooler than we thought it would be.



The next two pictures go together and gives a complete picture.





Good looking place to fish, but only caught one in this location.



Few other shots that I found interesting.





It was quite disappointing to see the fish, but we could not get any in this area to bite.

I'll need to check with Charles, but I believe it is the Humminbird Smartstrike Midatlantic.

One thing I forgot to point out is note the time of the first screenshot--4:26. Look how the shad have risen towards the surface with the warming of the sun. Look at the shots from the morning and you will see them deeper. I don't think it makes a difference to the crappie, but is something to consider. The shot with the GPS map was a place I have wanted to try for some time. The wind made it difficult, but I sure thought we would find good fish on the land between the channel where it makes the big U, but only got the one I mentioned earlier.

I wonder if the striper population is thriving on this shad explosion. You'd think there would be at least one or two in these images. Thanks for posting these pix!

Now that we can see that level of detail of what is underneath the boat, are you able discern on the screen biting fish from inactive fish? Have you noticed fish positioning themselves at certain distance or angle from structure/food when more likely to bite?

No question the Shad population has returned. With removal of the Solar Bees and hopefully, no extreme cold water temps, the Crappie should continue to do well.

Maybe we will hear something from our Wildlife Biologist.
