waccamaw 12/8
tried waccamaw today for 1st time since salt water has slowed way down. caught about 25 white perch and 3 crappie. most perch were throwbacks. kept 14 and 2 crappie. 2 perch were about a lb, 1 crappie 12'', 1 11'', and 1 4''. all caught on highly top secret grub color, but in 7.5 to 7,9 water. wind got up so only fished about 4 hrs. lakes about 45-50 minutes from me so I tried it. its just like everyone has said on here, beautiful place. 5 miles long, 3 1/2 miles wide. tea colored water. guess I better learn to love perch jerkin down here cause crappie are hard to find///.

did you see any gull activity?

no yellows, no gulls, took my grandson, home from college for holidays. 1 rod bent double and he caught a bass. 6lb 3 oz. we longlined jigs, staying in deep whole time. gonna go bsck on a calm day and look for some kind of structure.
ENOMAN:D

Grew up on this lake. Any structure you find outside the "poles" is going to be man made. Last time I was there the lake did have some hydrilla growing on the cove side but my understanding is they have sprayed that. Good luck.

Why would anyone want to live where there are no Crappie?

This lake has a long skinny minnow that I understand is only in this lake. It is the primary food for all the fish except when the mayflies morph out then every things goes to the flies. Fish2eat is right about the structure but there is a couple of holes the people have put some things in. On warm days the perch will drive the minnows to the surface and the gulls will swarm over
them. I have found it to be a "all in" lake. One trip it is on fire and others it is cold.
What area did you move to?
-
I grew up fishing lake Waccamaw it has great fish in it especially blue gill and I Ave caught yellow perch over by the damn along the piers and the grass beds. The crappie are up in the area known as big creek lots of structure in there. Also there are huge bowfin and catfish I need that lake when you can find them also chain pickerel as well.

Moved to West End. A little northwest of Southern Pines. Do most of my fishing on Tillery and Badin now. Been meaning to try Jordan but just have not got around to it yet. Very lucky. According to Google maps: Jordan, Harris, Tillery and Badin all about the same drive time from home now.

John, those are excellent results for your first time there. This lake has some huge crappie and shellcrackers to go along with those white perch. The perch are fairly easy to catch, but it takes some time on the lake to unlock the other species.
