I find that all 3 features, 2d, DI, and SI contribute to the perfect crappie combination. The proper settings, and use, of these functions equals more fish on the hook. One caution - - - Humminbird units with both SI and DI have a compromise with the DI clarity; it does not give nearly the resolution of a dedicated DI unit and transducer. (EXAMPLE) - I have a597CI HD DI that I primarily use for DI only. - - My main unit,
899CI HD SI NAV COMBO is for all other functions. The 899 DI stinks compared to the 597 DI.

I use all 3 views as well. I'm a HB user and keep my top "quick view" button with a split screen...GPS/2D. On my middle "quick view" button I have DI only and only SI on the bottom button. Very easy to switch back and forth as needed. I used Lowrance for years and now am an avid fan of HB. However, I'm sure Lowrance has some real nice features as well. Like most fisherman, I'm used to what I have. I am very pleased with HB. I run a 959 up front with 2d and GPS only and a 999 with all 3 at the helm. As you know my equipment is now old technology and if you keep up you'll be changing every year. No thanks. Find what you like and use it and you will learn how to use it to your benefit.

THE STYLE OF FISHING WILL HELP IN DECIDING WHAT YOU NEED,I DO A LOT OF BRUSH PILE FISHING AND WITH A TRUE DI YOU KNOW IF YOU SHOULD STOP OR KEEP GOING,YOU NOT ONLY CAN SEE THE FISH IN BP BUT ALSO WITH PRATICE CAN TELL IF THEY ARE BIG ENOUGH TO FISH FOR UNLESS BP STILL HAVE LEAVES ON IT.WITH PRATICE YOU CAN TELL IF WHITE DOTS ARE FISH OR ALAGUE GROWING ON IT,SI IS MORE A SEARCHING TOOL,DI MOSTLY TO IDENIFY WHAT YOU SEE AND 2D IS GREAT FOR SPEED AND JIGGING THE BRUSH AND WATCHING YOUR BAIT AND THE FISH THAT MOVES TO BAIT AND MOVES IN THE PILE,I HAVE 2D AND DI UP FRONT AND 1199 SI AND 859 DI AT CONSOLE FOR SEARCHING AND I RUN 859 TO SEE THE FISH ON PILES SO I KNOW IF NEED TO STOP OR NOT.IF YOU ARE MOSTLY A TROLLER THAN YOU MAY WANT IT SET UP A LITTLE DIFFERENT IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT
