Okay I have a ? To ask, last year was my first year crappie fishing I entered a couple of the bigeye crappie tournaments really just to have fun with my son we are both really competitive, my ? Is for the winners or top placing teams ,how many fish do you usually catch to get those limits or is it just a certain spot or a lot of luck to catch the size you guys catch. The reason I ask is I have been going a lot this year and every time I go the biggest 7 I can catch is around 8 to 8.5 lbs and I usually catch between 18-25 keepers each time I go ,and I might only catch 5-10 non keepers ,are you guys catching 50 keepers to get the 12lb sacks or is it just the place or presentation,I am not asking for you to tell me how to catch them just kinda wondering. Thanks in advance
8.5 pounds is a good sack of fish! That is almost a 1.25 average. Alot of the larger fish come from the spring when the fish are full of eggs. Keep fishing one day it will all fall into place.
I agree with Shane. Our goal is to have seven 1-pound fish. If we can consistently catch those pounders, the larger fish will be in the neighborhood and we will end up catching some of them. You are averaging some good numbers. I've seen a number of tournaments in which 8 pounds wins.
Thanks guys I just want to be in the running with you top guys, yesterday we caught a total of 18 keepers and only caught 8 under fish and they where only 1/4" under. The biggest fish yesterday was 1lb 9oz , and 2 that were 1lb 8 oz, we had 3 1 lb 4oz each and the rest were in between 14 oz and a pound ,but I didn't think about the fish being bigger in the spring maybe we can stay with them. The only problem I see is I only fish once a month so I can't keep up with their movements like some of you guys that fish a lot. I plan on fishing some more tournaments this year so maybe I can stay with you pros.
We are not pros by no means we just love to fish and make great friends along the way. I can personally say that Dennis and Charles are 2 guys I would drop everything for and help them when ever and where ever they needed me. Hope to see you at the tourneys this year.
Yea I hope to fish some more this year and hope I learn more about where them 2 pounders live, but I have already learned a bunch in 1 year and I am loving crappie fishing i never thought I would but it is definitely is growing on me.hope to see you guys some this spring thanks for info made me feel better about what I am doing.
I went Friday and had one that was 2.2 and bout 4 that was 13/4 lbs and the rest was from a1-1/12 lbs brought home 14

Bigger baits produce bigger fish. There are times I like 3 inch grubs as opposed to 2 inch. if you use minnows, try the larger "bass" minnows.
