Lake Higgins and Lake Townsend Reports
Lake Higgins- Fished last Thursday. Caught 123 crappie. All small. Had 40 in the boat in the first hour. Longline trolling with jigs. Water temp 70. Water was very clear after all the hurricane rain. This lake very seldom gets muddy. Fish were suspended at 15 ft over 20ft water. Fish bit too fast. I use double rigs and often had doubles on multiple rods at the same time. Fished 4 hours and weatherman's 4 mph wind became 14 mph. I had enough by that time-getting too old to wind that many that fast. Kept a few to eat. Good day on the water.
Lake Townsend-Fished yesterday. Caught 10 crappie, 1 bass, and 1 perch. Could not ever get on to the fish. Longline trolling with jigs. Water temp 70. Again this lake was also very clear after all the recent rain. Fish were not where I have caught them previously this time of year. High water temp for late October is keeping them out in deeper water. Kept moving around and finally located fish on my depth finder-on the other side of the lake in much deeper water. Fished suspended at 15 ft to 18 ft over 25 ft of water. This area was way to windy to troll. Did manage to catch a nice double. Kept enough for a meal. Another good day on the water.
