Default Coast report 7/26 and 8-4/5

Finally had a break in the schedule and some weather to pull my boat down for the summer to oak island.

on 7-26 i took the boat and fiance down to the beach for her birthday. worked out perfect. she wanted to go to the beach, i wanted to pull the boat down and fish....works for me.
Weather was by far not great on 7-26 but made work with what I had. wind was howling 20MPH, and it was 100 degrees. couldnt get off the beach, but did not need to. Spanish were busting on the rip on the rising tide at the inlet. In about an hour we picked up a 2 person limit casting spoons and ended it there. she held her own and did find.

Yesterday and the day before had beautiful weather and was able to take my boat off the beach like i wanted. Had my passenger back out on me last minute. Was not going to stop me from my plans. Limits of flounder each day and a triple drum at the very end of the day yesterday to finish it all off.

Please excuse the wore out look. my body is not used to the grind anymore like it used to!
now who wants to come over and help me clean these bad boys here in moments??

If anyone wants to go flounder fishing, now is the time!!

Pete, thanks for the report and love the pictures. I'd like to get a mess of flounder before I get to old to stand up. I know all about wore out feeling. Good job, keep on going it while you can!

That's some nice fish Pete! Those flounder are hard to beat! Mud minnows? Oak Island? On the Spanish do you fillet or leave on the bone? Thanks for the report and pics.

caught about 90% of them on mullet minnows. i like to cast and drag 1 rod over structure, then drop 2 rods straight down and leave the clicker on. youd be surprised how many bite the what i call "drop and forget about it" rod.

I fillet most of the spanish, however i do leave a few of the smaller 12-14 inch fish whole and hang them in the smoker. If you have never had smoked spanish, its great!
