The water temp was 60 when I put in around 830 this morning and around 62 when I got off around 2pm. I put in at the marina off 61 in the "electric" part of the lake and headed out to the channel. I fought the wind in the morning in my kayak but was able to find one school tucked in the corner of one inlet. Caught a number of the 8-9 inch crappie and then my nemesis...a 18 " catfish grabbed my rig and proceeded to roll and get itself hooked and twisted in my line. I'm new to fishing in general, but I have come to really dislike catching catfish when I'm targeting crappie!
On the return trip to the marina (I wish I had shot a picture of the sonar) I marked the largest school I have ever seen (again...haven't been fishing that long) but was able to put as many in the boat as I cared too. Finally caught one north of 10" which was my goal and called it a day.
All were caught on minnows and at around 8-10 feet. None next to the shore. I did cast a small chatter bait onto some sandy points. Shallow water. And got some good bites but could never hook anything. Either bream or maybe bedded bass?
