    Thumbs up Harris Report 3/28

Been trying to go fishing for two weeks now and finally got out on Sunday during the break in the rain. Had the fever so bad even my wife was glad to see me go. Fished for about two hours pounding the shallow water without much action except for one good spot where I caught four good crappies and a nice bream, and lost a couple more at the boat. Headed back home to get the fish cleaned before the rain hit.

Fish were caught on roadrunner/curly tails using slow retrieve and bobber/jig "do nothing" in about 4 feet of water. Water temp hovered around 60 - 61 degrees. Fish I caught had no eggs maybe they were male or maybe they have spawned?

I searched several good looking spots with the roadrunner trying to find more shallow crappie either they went deep or I don't know where to fish. Didn't have a lot of time to dial them in bud glad I got enough dinner.

I think last week's cold front pushed them back out into cold water.

Thanks for the report. I hope they may move back shallow this week. Weather certainly seems to have them out of whack this year.
Life jackets can be uncomfortable, but much less so than drowning.

I went to Harris Sunday too and had limited success. Started fishing the shallows and like you they just were not there. I was seeing water temp around 60. Went back to 20-25' of water and caught several smaller ones with a few good ones mixed in but no large females. We were dropping minnows and throwing some jigs. Did you launch from Hollemans?

Yeah launched from Hollemans. Started in a cove not far from the boat ramp, nothing biting shallow so ran up past the bridge looking for warmer water. That's where I found a group of crappie shallow, but that was only one spot. Didn't have time to back off the bank and look deeper

Were you in a yak? We left around 2:30.

When I came in to the ramp Saturday night close to dark there was a guy on the dock and he caught a few really nice crappie there in 2' of water. Funny how we run all over the lake and the fish are right at the ramp.

I was in a 14 foot jon boat. Funny about catching at the boat ramp! I love fishing bass fishing at the ramp in the fall, you can catch some nice fish on top water on the flats there.

I remember one morning I put in super early and was busy catching bass when a bass tournament kicked off at the boat ramp. Bass boats everywhere, ramp was backed up. They blasted every which way rooster tails a-flying and there I was 150 yards away in my jon landing some 6 pounders

We now have a Tracker boat but I told my kids that a $50,000 bass boat still doesn't mean you will catch more fish. I've caught tons of nice fish from my canoe back in the day and grew up running jon boats.
I completely believe your story because this past summer I was sitting in the boat near the ramp waiting for my wife to back the trailer down and there must've been 20 boats there. The guy beside me starts throwing a crankbait for the heck of it can caught a 5+ pounder in between us. He said he fished all day and got nothing until that one.

I read in a magazine to try fishing near boat ramps since that's where a lot of fish are released after tourneys, so I gave it a try, and sure enough...
