    Default Winter Jigging

Starting to think about winter fishing (specifically Harris). I usually do well tight lining jigs and minnows in 25+ fow, but thought jigging a spoon might work when water is sub-50 degrees and fish are holding tight to bottom. Any thoughts on this, and if it works, what kind of jigs do you use (I'm thinking jigging spoons???).

    Regards

Special K taught me how to jig a jig in winter. Small rod, light line, very slow, one turn of the bottom. Thanks SpecialK.

We use them a lot for the perch here on Hickory. We buy the very small jigging spoons. Probably 1.5 inches long but still fairly heavy for their size. Find the perch, drop it to the bottom, raise and lower a couple of times and hang on. Academy sports has a nice assortment of them for around $2 each up here.

Thanks cwright, that's what I was thinking of trying. Didn't know if the fish like zero to no action in the winter, but I think popping a spoon and letting it fall simulates a dying shad and will be effective. I'll give it a shot and let y'all know!
