Pop and I Bringing Home Flounder
Spent most of last week down at Sea Level fishing the Drum Inlet area of Core Sound. The sound water is still quite stained from all the rain a couple of weeks ago and there was a good blow on Tuesday. I took the advice of Capps Cousin and took my crappie rods. I paralleled the shore line one morning and was able to catch a nice flounder on a Z-man white scented paddler bait using my 14' pole I bought from Monk. The crabs were tearing up my cut bait, so I went all plastics. Wind only allowed me to try the crappie rods one morning and look forward to trying it again.
My brother had rigged my boat with LED lights to try flounder gigging at night. The wind was completely still one evening, so Pop and I took it out. Unfortunately, two of the three lights quit working, but the most important still worked. Because of the stained water, you couldn't see much more than twelve feet from shore. That was okay, because this is where the flounder will be. We didn't stay out much more than an hour, but did get the nice one in the picture below. We had it for dinner tonight and it was good. Didn't get the weight, but did measure almost 23" long. My brother and his brother-in-law gigged most nights by walking and we ended up with 20 or more flounder.
