One of the "Rules of Thumb" so to speak back in my Bass Fishing days was that you want to use as little amount of weight as possible. Most of our fish that night were in 10- 12 foot of water so the split shot was all we needed to accomplish that depth. We only use one rod and hold it. Some of the strikes you can feel and the others not so much. I constantly check my bait by just pulling up and sometimes have one on that i didn't feel. Remember depending on how far your weight is from you hook, that there is that much slack in your line. You feel the weight on you line not the minnow. Thats why we just use one rod. PAM - did I hear you say you don't eat fresh water fish?????? Dude, your missing out.
